Wear OS has a Private Space problem that Google is aware of, however there is currently no solution

Although Google's significant 2024 Android OS version offers improved privacy, the firm is cognizant of a serious issue.

Regarding the recently discovered Wear OS Private Spaces concerns, the firm released a support website. Google restates that the purpose of Private Spaces is to conceal applications that you would prefer not to be seen by others. It does point out that some customers are getting notifications when they pair a Wear OS gadget with an Android phone that supports Private Space.

According to the post, customers who have their Wear OS watch configured to receive "bridged notifications" have this issue.

It goes without saying that apps installed in a Private Space are not meant to notify such devices. According to Google, one app may notify users if their "private space is unlocked on your phone." Furthermore, even if you don't have a profile on your smartphone, these notifications may still show a "work profile" indicator.

There is no information about a possible patch for Wear OS devices or Android 15's Private Spaces in Google's spotlight article. The article makes the assumption that a patch for Android 15 or Wear OS may include a fix. Google has not yet provided a patch, so one might be released in the future.

One of the key features that was emphasized at the debut of Android 15 was Google's Private Space. This feature works similarly to a "digital vault," keeping private your private apps that you would rather no one else see. Apps like banking and health can be kept apart from the rest of your device with the help of Private Space. Like when you lock your phone, users can use their fingerprint or PIN to safeguard the area.

Sadly, there is a gap on Wear OS devices that negates the benefit of concealing these programs in a "private space."

It's unclear if we're anticipating an update to resolve this problem. After taking a pause to fix a serious software issue, Google started updating the Wear OS for the Pixel Watch again this week. A recent update to Wear OS 5 caused a number of watches to freeze and lose all (correct) functionality.

More significantly, that update also included a warning that March 2025 would be the date of the next significant OS release. The wait for a remedy for Android 15's Private Space will be long, but maybe it won't be too long.
