Users of Google Workspace Can Access Gemini

  • 28-September-2024

Gemini will be available to users with Workspace Business, Enterprise, or Frontline plans, according to a Google announcement.

Consequently, "millions" of Workspace users can now take advantage of the AI-powered assistant.

Google Workspace revealed its internal research of pilot surveys it conducted with 18 global businesses. It showed that users were able to save an average of 105 minutes a week and that 75% of them felt that the tool had improved the quality of their work.

Google announced the news and provided a data security promise via its Workspace blog:

“Through the admin console, customers will have choice and control over how the Gemini app handles user prompt and generated response retention, while having our assurance that Gemini does not use your organisation’s data, user prompts, or generated responses to train or improve Gemini models.”

Upgrades to Data and Security

Google Workspace, formerly known as G-Suite, is a cloud-based platform for productivity tools and collaboration. It recently added a new security advisor to the platform, which allayed security concerns.

The new "personal security expert" can offer suggestions for improved organizational security, practical advice, data protection measures, and business insights.

Over the next weeks, Google says it will begin to distribute the security advice to all users of the Workspace Business edition.

Fresh Gemini Qualifications

But that's not all. Using this occasion, Google has also unveiled the most recent set of industry certifications for Gemini for Workspace.

After completing work to handle HIPAA workloads earlier this year, it states that Gemini is "one of the first" to earn an industry certification: "In the era of generative AI, our commitments to data privacy, confidentiality, and security remain core to our product design."

“With Gemini, you’re getting an enterprise-grade AI-powered assistant that can help you meet your compliance requirements today — something unavailable with similar solutions in the market.”

Businesses of all sizes can use Gemini for Workspace to profit from the advantages that generative AI can offer.

Google Workspace applications and Gmail received an upgrade in June that included the inclusion of the AI-powered productivity assistant to the side panels of the services, along with other new Gemini features.

Google's more advanced models, such the Gemini 1.5 Pro model, which has an expanded context window and improved reasoning capabilities, are included in the side panel.

This happened after Google I/O in May, where a plethora of changes were unveiled, most centered around Google's developing software (such the Workspace suite), generative AI, and the Gemini large language models.

New features in Gemini include the ability to upload files to Gemini Advanced from your device or Google Drive, data analysis for spreadsheets and uploaded files via Gemini, an advanced travel planning feature powered by Gemini, and the ability to message friends and chat with the bot at the same time.
