Up to three new SUVs may be introduced in India over the course of the next 12 to 18 months, according to Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM). A brand-new electric SUV that will launch in the later half of 2025 and be built on the same platform as the Maruti Suzuki eVX is one of these upcoming products.
The Japanese auto giant might release two new hybrid and SUV models prior to the release of the electric SUV. TKM hopes to increase its market share in India with these acquisitions by providing a range of ICE, hybrid, and electric vehicle alternatives to appeal to a broad consumer base. Toyota is planning to release its first electric SUV in H2 2025; it will borrow design elements from the prototype Urban SUV that was unveiled a year ago. Its driving range is estimated to be as much as 550 kilometers. Using a version of Toyota's 27PL platform, this new electric car will have much of the same parts and architecture as the future Maruti Suzuki eVX. The SUV's interior will be furnished with a plethora of features and technologies, such as floating touchscreen entertainment system, all-digital instrument cluster, and advanced driver assistance systems.
A few international markets, notably South Africa, are already where Toyota the Fortuner MHEV. In conjunction with a 2.8L four-cylinder GD series diesel engine, it will have a 48-volt mild hybrid system. As it contributes to reduced pollutants and increased fuel efficiency, the MHEV technology improves performance, especially during acceleration and low-speed driving.
It is anticipated that the SUV would make its debut in 2025 or later this year, even if the precise launch details for the Toyota Fortuner mild hybrid electric vehicle variant have not been disclosed.
Early or mid-2025 is when the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder with seven seats is expected to go on sale. Its rivals include the Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Citroen C3 Aircross, among other three-row SUVs.
