Toyota Probably Introduce One EV and Two Mild Hybrid Vehicles in 2024–2025

The hybrid vehicles, Toyota Fortuner and Hilux, have been gradually introduced to the global market. There is currently no hybrid technology available in India for the standard Fortuner and Hilux models. There are now several petrol, CNG, powerful hybrid, and diesel models available in India from Toyota, some of which are joint ventures with Maruti Suzuki.

Though the popularity of the full-sized Fortuner SUV in India and the positive response to the Hilux lifestyle pickup truck have raised questions about the possible introduction of Toyota's diesel mild-hybrid technology in the nation, we can anticipate the Japanese automaker introducing the technology in 2025 or later this year.

In addition, Toyota plans to introduce a model that is substantially similar to the Maruti eVX as its first mass-market electric car in India early next year. Toyota debuted the MHEV-spec Hilux with cosmetic updates in Europe and other markets in February 2024. After a month, the South African prices for the Fortuner and Hilux MHEV were revealed.

The addition of the 48V emblem on the tailgate is the only notable change to the Fortuner MHEV's exterior design. Together with the well-known 2.8L four-cylinder 1GD-FTV diesel engine, which can produce a maximum power of 204 PS and a peak torque of 500 Nm, the mild hybrid system is used. A 12-volt battery and a six-speed automatic transmission are connected to this engine.

Along with other necessary parts, the system consists of a 48V battery and an electric motor/generator. According to Toyota, there is a five percent overall improvement in fuel efficiency and a six to ten percent smoother diesel engine. An extra 16 PS and 65 Nm are added to the vehicle's performance with the addition of an electric motor and battery pack.

In H2 2025, Toyota will introduce its first-ever electric SUV in India, which will be powered by a version of its 27PL platform. It will be shipped from India to a number of international markets and have a 60 kWh battery pack with a stated 550 km of driving range. The concept for the design is the Urban SUV, which was unveiled a year ago.
