The top smartphone brands in South Africa are revealed

  • 25-January-2024

According to an Analytico survey, Samsung is the most well-known smartphone brand in South Africa.

Smartphones are now a near necessity for many people and account for a $409 billion global market in revenue.

Smartphones have become indispensable for Internet access and communication, including e-mail and instant messaging, even though they still provide basic features like calls and SMS.

In addition, they take excellent photos and videos, take the place of your planner or journal, and come with a plethora of apps that can be used for anything you can think of, like ordering groceries for delivery the same day, navigation while driving, or a panic button for personal safety.

2,500 people responded to a recent survey conducted by Analytico to find out which tech brands are most well-liked in South Africa.

Samsung has a significant advantage over its rivals as half of the respondents named it as their favorite smartphone brand.

With almost 30% of the vote, Apple is in a comfortable second place, which is not surprising given its significant global market share.

With 8% of the vote each, Xiaomi and Huawei completed the list of the leading companies in the market. Brands like Google, Oppo, Honor, Nokia, and Oppo each received about 1% of the vote.

The fact that mobile networks do not always offer these brands on contracts may have an effect on their level of popularity.

Users who prefer certain device models must import them because they are not formally available in South Africa.

Gestural devices and smartwatches

Over the past few years, the more recent category of smartwatches has experienced tremendous growth.

It has evolved from being a luxury item for elite athletes and the wealthy to being almost as ubiquitous as a wristwatch, albeit with more features.

In Q3 2023, the global smartwatch market reportedly reached 35 million shipment units, according to Counterpoint.

Four brands stood out in the survey, indicating that the South African smartwatch market is far more fiercely competitive.

With 37% of the vote, Samsung was once again the winner, closely followed by Apple (25%).

Huawei is at 12% and Garmin is at 16% in the competition for individual brands.
