The Redesigned YouTube App Miniplayer Functions Similarly to picture-in-picture

  • 25-July-2024

A new miniplayer design for YouTube for Android users that functions as an in-app picture-in-picture (PiP) is currently being tested.

The YouTube miniplayer is tethered to the bottom bar these days. The play and close buttons are on the right, while the name and channel display after the somewhat brief and cropped movie on the left.

The updated layout resembles a picture-in-picture window. It allows you to watch the video and explore YouTube at the same time.

With rounded corners that blend with the movie, this rectangular card offers a 10-second rewind/skip button on either side of the play/pause button. Depending on the theme, the controls' backdrop is either dark or white.

Interestingly, this new miniplayer video may be resized to fill the screen from top to bottom. To move the rectangle around, drag it like a picture-in-picture. You can slide the "x" button to the bottom of your screen or hit it in the upper-right corner to close.

Not many people have had access to this picture-in-picture miniplayer on YouTube for Android yet.
