Samsung is now prepared to begin releasing Wear OS 5 to a limited number of Galaxy Watch devices following several months of beta testing.
Samsung launched a One UI 6 Watch test program for its Galaxy Watch 6 series back in June, and it subsequently extended it to older devices. The Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra come pre-installed with the upgrade, which is based on Wear OS 5. However, the great majority of Galaxy Watch owners have not yet received Wear OS 5 because that upgrade needs users to individually enroll.
That is going to change soon
Owners of Galaxy Watch 6s who participated in the One UI 6 Watch beta program have recently received the stable Wear OS 5 update from Samsung. According to Samsung, this officially ends the beta program, and a steady rollout often follows shortly after.
Since there won't be any more beta releases until the following year's update, Watch 6 owners who participated in the beta program will automatically be back on the stable update track after updating to this most recent version. Although the precise timeframe is yet unknown, it is probably going to happen very soon.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Google began to send out Wear OS 5 to the Pixel Watch and Watch 2, but ultimately paused the update because of a number of problems.
