Telkom receives the smartwatch launch from Soweto company

  • 12-December-2023

The Afriwatch1 smartwatch from Soweto-based Khoi Tech is currently available at Telkom retail locations and online.

Important health parameters including blood oxygen detection, body temperature monitoring, heart rate monitoring, and stress and sleep tracking are all supported by the Afriwatch1.

Khoi Tech described the watch as a "total powerhouse," offering up to five days of continuous health monitoring on a single charge, support for 12 exercise modes, remote music control, messaging, and more.

According to the company, Vilakazi Health Care, a healthcare provider in Soweto, collaborated on research, development, and clinical trials to "refine" the smartwatch's technology.

As a result, the average accuracy of the wristwatch for critical health data was 94%.

According to Khoi Tech, the Afriwatch1 was developed in reaction to the Covid-19 pandemic.

After the company presented its idea to Telkom, the latter was intrigued by its potential and awarded the company an R500,000 grant under its FutureMakers initiative.

For use in employee wellness initiatives, Khoi Tech also sells its watches to businesses and organizations.

It has an alert feature that allows it to immediately notify employers and next of kin in the event of an emergency.

According to Khoi Tech, its Afriwatch1 product is assisting the company in establishing “the global standard for innovation from Africa.”

"Thanks to forward-thinking businesses like Khoi Tech, the future is here and made in South Africa," the company declared.

When purchased with the FlexOn prepaid package, the Afriwatch1 is available on Telkom for R2,479 in standalone pricing.

Customers may also choose to pay R2,628 to pair it with a 2GB data SIM.

With those costs, the smartwatch is competitive with models such as the Xiaomi Redmi Watch 3, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, and Garmin Forerunner 45.

For less than R1,000, there are a plethora of other low-cost smartwatches that have features comparable to the Afriwatch1.

Zeroner or Zeofit, depending on whether you downloaded it from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, is the name of the smartphone app that was used to link the device.

Numerous low-cost smartwatches sold in China are paired with these apps, which are published by a Chinese developer.

A 1.65-inch color LCD display and a 170mAh battery with a week's worth of stated usage are two more pieces of hardware included in the Afriwatch.

Powering the smartwatch is the Goodix GR5515 chip, which can be found in many low-cost smartwatch models.

Additional Khoi Tech Afriwatch1 specifications are listed below.
