TECNO unveiled a novel tri-fold phone that is more compact than the Galaxy Z Fold 6

  • 28-August-2024

TECNO is no stranger to intriguing idea gadgets; at MWC 2024 earlier this year, the company unveiled several of them. The company is now trying something different with the Phantom Ultimate 2, a new tri-fold phone with an amazing and adaptable design, after showcasing the Phantom Ultimate rollable phone concept.

Although tri-fold concepts are not new, TECNO's design, which folds to a mere 11mm thick, is the result of some really outstanding engineering. As a point of comparison, the folded dimensions of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 are 12.1mm. The triple camera system area, which also contains the charging connector and what appears to be a speaker opening, is the thickest part.

TECNO is employing a novel hinge design that can produce foldable phones with a thickness of less than 9 mm in order to attain such thinness. Additionally, the business makes use of "the thinnest battery cover in the smartphone industry," which is just 0.25mm thick and composed of "super-compressed Titan Advanced Fiber material."

The primary display measures 6.48 inches when closed. When the phone unfolds, it reveals a sleek design and a 10-inch 4:3 aspect-ratio 3K OLED panel. The TECNO Phantom Ultimate 2 resembles an Android tablet when it is unfolded, however it has far fewer bezels. To increase the device's adaptability, TECNO has included a variety of folding angles in addition to the option to fold it fully open.

One example displays the Ultimate 2 upright, with one-third of the phone folded flat on a table and the user typing on it much like they would on a standard laptop keyboard. With its bottom-mounted keyboard, it resembles the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i and is designed with productivity in mind. In another, the lower part is folded back in a configuration that appears to be intended for watching media. A third configuration displays the phone folded into a tent-like shape. According to TECNO, this mode is perfect for situations such as live dual-screen translation, a function that is increasingly being utilized by foldable phones.

Additionally, TECNO has tuned the software to capitalize on the form factor, allowing users to take use of multi-panel multitasking and having backgrounds that change according on how the phone is folded or unfolded.

According to TECNO, both hinges have been tested to withstand up to 300,000 folds and are strengthened with 2100MPa strength to support all these different folding scenarios.

Since this is a concept device, TECNO regrettably withheld certain details from the press release, including the chipset, battery life, camera resolutions, and more. Additionally, it's unclear when and if TECNO intends to introduce the product or a similar one. It goes without saying that producing anything of this caliber would not be inexpensive, and TECNO takes great satisfaction in creating amazing devices at more reasonable costs.

In relation to that, the business is getting ready to release the Phantom V Fold 2 and Phantom V Flip 2, two foldable gadgets. Although they do not have a release date, TECNO states that they are "scheduled for release soon." anticipate fantastic looks and costs that will beat out most of the competitors, especially Samsung, if they are anything like the previous versions.
