Smartwatch Garmin Forerunner 55 Receives an Update

  • 15-March-2024

The Forerunner 55 smartwatch now runs software version 10.01 from Garmin. Two issues with running activities and the CIQ watch face are fixed in the stable update. It is yet unclear, though, if the updated software resolves a battery drain issue that users have been reporting since upgrading to version 9.03.

Version 10.01 of the stable update for the Garmin Forerunner 55 smartwatch is now available. The software is now available for download via Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile, the company confirmed, and it is compatible with all wearable models. The smartwatch has received two bug fixes in this comparatively minor update.

In the first, a bug that could prevent users from turning on their smartwatch after finishing a running activity is fixed. Garmin has addressed the issue of the CIQ watch face not functioning as intended as its second problem. Customers will have to wait for these public software releases as the model is no longer part of the company's beta program.

For instance, version 9.03, the previous stable update, was released in November of last year. This update was intended to help extend the wearable's battery life in addition to fixing a bug with the "Use Heart Rate Zones" settings for intensity minutes. Nevertheless, a number of users expressed dissatisfaction over the smartwatch's battery draining more quickly than anticipated; one user to be about 10% of its power every hour. As of this writing, the change log makes no mention of whether software version 10.01 will also address the battery life issues with the Garmin Forerunner 55 smartwatch.
