Google's Gmail app is among the additional apps that Samsung is adding to the cover display of its Galaxy Z Flip smartphones.
The company's foldable flip phone received a larger, genuinely helpful cover display with the release of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 last year. However, it was somewhat restricted, allowing only a few chosen apps and widgets to operate on the 3.4-inch screen. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 recycles the screen and adds some extra capabilities along with a few more widget possibilities.
Samsung, though, promises more
Samsung executives confirmed that new apps are being developed for the cover display for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 (and likely the Flip 5) during a media briefing held in advance of today's Unpacked presentation. Microsoft Outlook and Google's Gmail were the two programs that were highlighted. The release date for these additional apps is unknown, though. On the Flip 6, they won't be available right out of the box, though.
Owners of Galaxy Z Flip smartphones may already utilize both applications by utilizing Samsung's Good Lock feature, which allows any program to operate on the "FlexWindow."
On July 24, Samsung will begin distributing the Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Buds 3 (and Buds 3 Pro), Galaxy Watch 7, and Galaxy Watch Ultra in addition to its new foldable devices.
