A phased rollout of the public software version 17.24 is currently available for the Garmin Forerunner 955 smartwatch. Along with new tools seen in recent beta releases, the update adds features to the wearables that had previously been leaked. These consist of additional activities, enhanced notifications, and sleep insights.
Version 17.24 of the Garmin firmware is now available for public download on smartwatches in the Forerunner 955 series. The previous stable update was released in September, and the most recent software is the result of multiple rounds of beta testing that began in November. Additionally, the Forerunner 255, 265, and 965 smartwatches are receiving an update for the software.
Update 17.24 for the Forerunner 955 adds Up Ahead voice prompts when navigating a course with course points. You can also view the weather at multiple locations thanks to a setting that Garmin added. It is currently unknown when iOS device users will be able to utilize this feature, but similar to the Forerunner 255, you can now view images included in phone notifications.
However, this is only available for Android devices. Earlier in the year, users of the Fenix 7 and Forerunner 265 discovered that the Body Battery menu now includes settings for Daily Summary, Stress Alerts, and Rest Alerts.
The new software also includes a large font mode, additional functionality for Body Battery, and Nap glance. There are now more team sports, inline skating, and racket activities available. Additionally, the UI and course navigation have been improved.
Although Garmin has not provided progress updates since the initial announcement, it is noted that this is a phased rollout.
