This year, Mühle-Glashütte is commemorating two anniversaries.
The company was founded in 1869 and has been in continuous operation for 155 years. It has also undergone a 30 year transformation under the current custodian, Thilo Mühle, a fifth generation descendant of the founder, who relaunched the business in 1994 alongside his father, following Germany's reunification in 1991.
Mühle is producing a series of limited-edition timepieces under the Edition 1994 label in commemoration of the momentous year. These timepieces have the numeral 30 on their dials and 155 in place of the 55 minute marker.
A 155-piece limited edition 29er Big Bronze Edition 1994 is the first release, and it goes on sale today.
The 29er Big is available in a unique blue that Mühle uses to symbolize its history as a nautical timekeeper. The 30 minute marker is highlighted in red on its date wheel, and on the seconds track, 55 changes to 155.
Due to the material's ability to withstand both freshwater and saltwater, the 42.4mm case, bezel, and crown are all made of aluminum bronze, adding to the device's maritime heritage. It will eventually develop a patina.
The modified SW-200-1 movement, which features a customized Mühle Edition 1994 rotor and Mühle's shockproof woodpecker neck fine regulator, is visible through an exhibition case back.
It costs $2,300 and comes with a canvas strap fastened with a bronze pin buckle.
