Google stops the Play Store from allowing app sharing

  • 18-December-2024

This is the last version of a feature that Google first released in 2022 that allowed Android users to share apps with other nearby Android users through the Play Store using Quick Share. Paid applications, books, videos, and age-inappropriate apps cannot be shared, and the capability does not require Wi-Fi or an internet connection because it uses Quick Share. According to Google's December Play Store update release notes (version 44.1), "The Share apps feature on Google Play will be retiring."

You can use Quick Share in the Files by Google app if you wish to share your apps even further. To accomplish this, adhere to these guidelines:

Tap on Apps under the Categories heading after opening the Files by Google app.
Choose the app you wish to share from the list of apps that displays, then press the three-dot icon next to its listing. Click Share when the pop-up box appears.
It will open a share sheet. To share your app with a nearby Android device, click Quick Share and adhere to the on-screen instructions.

The Share apps feature may remain in the Play Store until Google permanently eliminates it, despite Google's announcement in the December Play Store update that it is abandoning it. It is important to note that Quick Share was formerly known as Nearby Share.

You can install the Files by Google app from the Play Store by tapping on this link if your Android phone does not already have it. If you've been suggesting a helpful app to a friend, family member, or coworker, you might wish to share it with another Android user. Because the other person doesn't have to search for the app themselves, using this feature saves time. You may share an app with another Android user in places with weak cellular connections or no internet access because Quick Share doesn't require Wi-Fi.

If you're working on a project for business or school that calls for the other person to utilize the same applications that you do, this functionality can also be helpful. Therefore, you can still share programs from your Android device using the Files by Google app if you need to share your apps using Quick Share and the Play Store no longer offers this feature.
