Google Pixel 6 Factory Reset May Damage Your Mobile Device

  • 01-July-2024

Users of the Google Pixel 6 are experiencing major headaches due to a new software issue. During a factory reset, some phones encounter a serious issue, transforming them into fancy paperweight.

Some Pixel 6 owners have claimed on Google support forums that their phones bricked after performing a factory reset, according to Tech-Issues Today. Google is aware of the issue and is investigating it, according to a forum posting.

In the forum discussion, Pixel 6 owners stated that after attempting to reset their devices, the phones failed to boot up properly and displayed the error message: "Cannot load Android system. Your data may be corrupted. If you continue to receive this warning, you may need to perform a factory data reset to clear all user data on this device."

When customers face an error notice, they are offered the option to "try again," although this frequently proves pointless. Additional factory reset attempts may result in even more ominous notifications, such as a missing critical file named "tune2fs" or a failure to "enable ext4 verify," both of which are required for the phone's file system integrity.

The term "tune2fs" alludes to deeper concerns with the system tools that manage the phone's storage.

It appears that this isn't a one-time glitch. Many Reddit users are also reporting that their Pixel 6 phones become bricked following a factory reset. Even Google's recovery tools are unable to resolve the issue.
