Google Leak Shows the Highly-Required Pixel 9 Pro Update

  • 08-July-2024

Next month marks the release of Google's next Pixel smartphones, and fresh information points to a much-needed update.

According to the folks at Android Authority, who are citing insiders with knowledge of the situation, all three of the Pixel 9 devices—the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL—will use an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.

This ought to enhance the biometric sensor's accuracy and responsiveness in the next generation of phones. The fingerprint readers found on the latest Pixel handsets have not been well welcomed; complaints concerning the sensors, along with questions about why they can be imprecise and unresponsive, are abundant on Google's help pages.

As many users have found, the optical sensor used by the current (and older) Pixels can be weak, and they are constrained to 2D scanning by design. By switching to an ultrasonic sensor, it should be possible to scan fingerprints with greater accuracy, unlock devices with greater security, and work with wet fingers or displays with greater fidelity.

Google is anticipated to make more improvements to the Pixel 9 series' fundamental hardware in addition to the new sensor. There's been a noticeable improvement in the supply chain display. It's possible that Google is getting ready to implement dual-stack technology, which will provide the Pixel 9 a brighter display with a longer lifespan and less power usage.
