Spotify will now be compatible with Google's Gemini Extensions, enabling users to use the generative AI assistant to search for and play music with natural language queries. According to 9to5Google, the extension, which was initially discovered in the Google app's code in June, is now making its way to Android handsets that support it.
Although it won't make Spotify playlists or radio stations just yet, Gemini can play music that has been found by song titles, artist names, album names, playlist names, or for a certain activity. One thing to keep in mind is that if you have already linked another music service, such as YouTube Music, you will need to specify (either orally or by typing in) which service you would want Gemini to use in your initial request. After that, it will utilize the one that was used most recently.
After the rollout of WhatsApp compatibility began in October, Spotify is the second non-Google app to get Gemini capabilities.
According to Google's extension support page, in order to use Gemini Apps, you must first link your Google and Spotify accounts. After that, you must activate Gemini Apps Activity, which has the capacity to store your AI searches for up to 72 hours. The Spotify extension only functions when Gemini's language is set to English at startup, and it cannot be used within Google Messages, the Gemini web app, or the Gemini app for iOS.
