$15 million has been donated by US chipmaker Nvidia and its staff to Israeli nonprofits aiding civilians impacted by Israel's conflict with Hamas.

Under a unique program created to aid those impacted by the war, thousands of employees from more than 30 countries donated a total of $5 million, which the company matched and doubled to $10 million, Nvidia announced on Sunday.

The donation was said to be the biggest in the 30-year history of the business as a humanitarian fundraiser.

"We are proud to see such broad support from Nvidia families in Israel and around the world, and are grateful for their prayers and hope for the return of our colleague Avinatan Or, and the other hostages from Hamas captivity," said Gideon Rosenberg, Nvidia's general counsel.

"We are truly inspired by the genuine care of our employees around the world."

Captured by Hamas, an Nvidia engineer

Using his LinkedIn profile, Or, 30, states that he has been an engineer at Nvidia since April 2022. Approximately 240 people, including his girlfriend Noa Argamani, were apprehended by Hamas on October 7 at the Nova music festival; some of the others have subsequently been released.

According to Nvidia, workers have opted to contribute to regional organizations such as Zaka, American Friends of Magen David Adom, Doctors Without Borders, Friends of United Hatzalah, IsraAID (US) Global Humanitarian Assistance, Jewish Agency for Israel, World Central Kitchen, and Asor Fund (JGive).

Along with providing thousands of hot meals from its Yokneam office cafeteria, Nvidia also announced that it had donated hundreds of computers to families that had been evacuated from the North and South of Israel.
