Barcelona, Spain hosted the world premiere of a number of cutting-edge products from Chinese telecom behemoth Huawei on Thursday, including a brand-new smartwatch.
With the slogan "Fashion Forward," Huawei unveiled its new "Wearable Strategy" on the tenth anniversary of its entry into the wearable market. The company hopes to usher in a new era of wearable technology that combines fashion, health, and sport.
Long-distance running legend Mo Farah and fitness and lifestyle influencer Pamela Reif attended the launch of the Watch GT 4 line. As Huawei Wearable Product Ambassadors, they will be promoting the new smartwatches.
The multiple Olympic, world, and European champion Farah told Xinhua that while he was setting records and winning medals as a long-distance runner, he would have loved to have had access to all the information provided by the smartwatch.
"It links into Strava (a feature-rich platform for athletes) and all your databases, for your coach, for yourself, and you can improve on things," he explained.
The company's flagship Watch GT series has a new model called the Watch GT 4. It has a plethora of features related to health and fitness, like enhanced heart rate sensing technology for more precise readings and a cycle prediction feature.
By emphasizing style and design above all else, the Watch GT 4 seeks to revolutionize the smartwatch market by providing a selection of cutting-edge designs in sizes suitable for both men and women.
"This is a unique feature of the Huawei watch," Huawei training manager Cezar Codau told Xinhua, displaying a female model of one of the watches. "You can see the watch face that blossoms every step you make, so if you move fast, if you move more, the flower will blossom more."
Activity Rings, Huawei's take on the Apple Watch's Rings feature and Android devices' Move Minutes, is a new fitness feature available on the GT 4. It tracks and displays the wearer's movement and exercise goals through the use of a circular ring.
Major retailers in Europe and the UK will carry the watch, according to Huawei, starting on October 4. The most affordable models will cost approximately 250 euros ($266.6) while the most expensive models will cost approximately 400 euros.
The high-fidelity FreeBuds Pro 3 TWS earbuds, the Eyewear 2 smart glasses, the Watch Ultimate Gold Edition, the company's first-ever gold smartwatch, and a PaperMatte variant of its MatePad tablet that offers a paper-like visual experience were also unveiled by Huawei.
