Apple Watch Series 10 Could Debut With LTPO OLED Display

  • 11-April-2024

The Apple Watch Series 10, which will be available later this year, will be unveiled by Apple soon. The tech behemoth is reportedly making significant advancements in the display technology of the next smartwatch, which will give consumers longer battery life, according to a recent report from South Korean publication The Elec. Low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED screens, when paired with thin-film transistor (TFT) technology, are expected to be featured in the Apple Watch Series 10 (The Elec).

With respect to its predecessor, the Apple Watch Series 9, this display technology breakthrough is anticipated to maximize the watch's performance and result in longer battery life.

According to the report, Apple is allegedly abandoning the use of low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) technology in most of the Series 10 switching transistors. LTPS technology will be limited to a small number of remaining switching TFTs and circuits outside of the Pixel area. It is expected that this tactical change will help improve the upcoming smartwatch's battery life.

When Is The Apple Watch Series 10 Launching?

Apple Watch unveilings are typically coordinated with iPhone announcements. For instance, the Apple Watch Series 9 debuted alongside the iPhone 15, while the Apple Watch Series 8 was introduced alongside the iPhone 14, and so forth. This pattern is logical since, while a cellular-enabled Apple Watch or an Apple Watch Ultra can function independently, they are primarily complementary devices to smartphones, serving purposes such as displaying notifications and managing media playback from smartphone apps.

The next Apple Watch X, also known as the Series 10, is expected to have a thinner watch casing and a novel way to fasten watch bands, which could free up extra space inside the watch. This information is according to news agency Bloomberg. Although the precise thickness of the Watch is still unknown, it would be a welcome addition if it were sufficiently thin to lessen sleeve snags.
